Mines and money: WMC has reached an agreement for handling largest investment summit

At the end of April 2017, the London headquarters of “Mines & Money” signed an agreement to hold an investment conference at the 25th World Mining Congress (WMC), which will be held in Astana on June 19-22, 2018 alongside "Astana Mining & Metallurgy" Congress.

According to the memorandum, the WMC 2018 agenda will include “Mines & Money” conference - Europe’s largest investment event for the mining sector. The organizers of WMC aimed to boost investment flow and attract more than 300 financial stakeholders to the country’s mining and metallurgy complex (MMC).

Increase of Kazakhstan's MMC investment attractiveness is one of the most important issues of the country's political course and is associated with the imminent changes in the industry's operating activities. In particular, the need to strengthen the investment environment is due to the transition of Kazakhstan to the West Australian model of reporting mineral deposits and the creation of a high-tech platform for the disclosure of geological information within the framework of the adoption of the Code on Subsoil and Subsoil Use.

The fourth industrial revolution "Industry 4.0" also plays its particular role. This initiative calls for companies to achieve a high level of digitalization of production and radically reconsider their investment programs. At stake is a special prize: the prospect of achieving significant revenue growth while reducing costs.

The location of WMC in Kazakhstan as one of the most resource-rich countries opens horizons and investment opportunities for worldwide businesses. In cooperation with “Mines & Money”, the upcoming congress will be a unique platform for engaging in dialogue with first-string investors to discuss ambitious projects.

On April 6-7, 2017 during the 97th meeting of the International Organizing Committee (IOC) of WMC in Vienna, the Deputy Chairman of the Industrial Development and Industrial Security Committee of the Ministry of Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, an active member of the IOC WMC Kanat Baitov made a report on preparations for the 25th World Mining Congress.

In particular, Kazakhstan presented the expanded agenda of the WMC, which includes a variety of topics covering the whole chain of MMC: from geological exploration and mining to enrichment, from risk assessment to attracting international financing. A special emphasis was made on issues related to the modernization of all basic industries, the introduction of the elements of the program “Industry 4.0” and the best practices of its application in the world MMC.
